Money spent on water fluoridation should be spent on dental services in Laois and elsewhere according to Laois Offaly TD Brian Stanley
Introducing Sinn Féin’s Bill to end fluoridation of water supplies in the Dáil Deputy Stanley said it was time to stop this “mass medication of Irish citizens”.
“I would also highlight the fact that, in Laois, children still do not see a dentist until they are 12 years old. This is a scandalous situation which must be addressed by the Department of Health as a matter of urgency. The millions of euros spent on fluoridation should be redirected towards the provision of proper dental health care for our children.
“Despite the overwhelming evidence, despite the lack of any credible government reviews, the quashed reports, the government continues to impose fluoride on the population at a cost of €4.8 million per annum for the product and an unknown amount to add it to the public water supply,” he said..
Stanley concluded no Government since 1964 has conducted any research into the effects of fluoride on public health.
