Oregon’s new Dental Director Dr. Bruce Austin just announced a goal of adding fluoridation chemicals to 80% of Oregonians’ water by 2019, and asked for the legislature’s help.
That goal could only be practically achieved through a Legislative bill to overturn the 2013 vote of 61% of Portlanders against water fluoridation, as well as a number of other votes and ordinances against fluoridation, including in Eugene, Bend, Ashland and Medford.
From Portland’s four votes against fluoridation, to this year’s Newport election where 64% of voters rejected fluoridation chemicals, voters in cities across Oregon have made their choice clear.
Add your name to the fast-growing list of citizens calling on Governor Brown, House Speaker Kotek, and Senate President Courtney to state that they will respect the repeated votes of Portlanders and other Oregon cities and they will not support any legislation that would overturn democratic votes or take away local control on water fluoridation.
After signing, please email your State Senator and Representative and urge them to reject Dr. Austin’s suggestion of overturning democratic votes, and to not support any legislation that would overturn democratic votes or take away local control on water fluoridation.
