SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — The borough council heard comments on the possibility of adding fluoride to the water during their Wednesday meeting.
“I am against the fluoridation in the water. It causes a lot of health problems,” resident Krista J. Essler said.
Essler, a licensed acupuncturist in Pottsville who practices holistic health, said she does not want her children or anyone in the community subjected to the additive.
Fluoride has been discussed numerous times at council meetings. The council voted Feb. 5 to add fluoride to the water supply. Fluoride was in the borough’s water supply until 2011, after a motion to keep fluoride failed on Feb. 3, 2010.
Most recently, the council voted Sept. 3 to postpone submitting the necessary paperwork to the state Department of Environmental Protection for a permit to add fluoride to the water until January. The decision to postpone the submission was recommended by members of the water committee previously.
Borough secretary Kathy Killian read a letter from Cressona Borough that their borough council has not made a decision on the fluoride issue.
