Fluoride is once again before city voters.

The Board of Aldermen voted unanimously Monday to place a proposed charter change that would forbid fluoridation of city water on the March ballot. The vote was in response to a petition calling for the referendum.

Since the last vote in 2016, in which the city voted 2,817-1,813 to continue fluoridation, anti-fluoride campaigner Jack Crowther has repeatedly tried to convince the Board of Aldermen to put an end to fluoridation anyway.

Back in April, Crowther was told if he wanted the issue revisited, he would have to get it on the ballot again. At that time, he said he did not want to go that route because he felt the issue should be up for a vote. Some weeks later, though, he said he and others were circulating a petition to put something on the March ballot.
