Philomath: Local doctors dispute fluoride removal

A battle over fluoridated water in Philomath goes to a second round at Monday’s meeting of the Philomath City Council.

At the meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 980 Applegate St., Benton County Health Department and Philomath doctors plan to ask the council to reconsider its unanimous May 9 decision to remove fluoride from the city’s water.

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that protects against tooth decay.

Philomath Mayor Ken Schaudt said that he did not recollect the reasoning for the decision nor why the issue was brought up. However, Schaudt said that he would comment on the topic at the Monday meeting…
