Fluoride Action Network

Abstract

The aim of this research is to study the structurally-functional state of bone mass, teeth, state of factual feeding, anthropometric parameters and physical development of children and teenagers populating the regions with high fluorine contents in water. 103 children, from 10 to 15 years (48 boys and 55 girls), in populated locality A, B and C with raised fluorine contents in ambient environment, were inspected during the study. It was discovered that the fluorine level in water of town B and C, is 2–5 times higher than normative, and in local wells the level is different within bounds of populated locality. A daily ration of teenagers from all towns is characterized by lower level of calorie content, insufficient protein consumption, level of microelements and imbalance in consumption of carbohydrates and fats. The surplus F concentration in water (max to 3.51 ml/l in town C) conduces to the development of fluorosis of teeth, frequency and degree of which depend on fluorine level in drinking-water, on background of normal indexes of structurally functional state of osseous cloth. For children, who dwell in region with raised fluorine contents in drinking-water, typical are the delay of physical development of boys and disharmonious physical development of girls. The anthropometric examination of children revealed the peculiar somatotypes of children of different towns, which is the task of a further study. The raised fluorine content in water negatively influences the forming peak of bone mass and physical development, teeth and calls for arrangements of primary and secondary prophylaxis of ?steoporosis and fluorosis.
