Abstract
As an additional part of our investigation of an association between fluoride in drinking water and children’s intelligence in two villages of Sihong County, Jiangsu Province, China, we have now determined blood lead levels of children in that study.
Blood samples (80 ?L) were collected on June 18 and 19, 2003 from the index finger of 71 randomly selected 8 to 13 year-old children in the high fluoride village of Wamiao and 67 children of the same ages in the low fluoride village of Xinhuai. The samples were preserved in clean plastic centrifuge tubes containing 0.64 mL of Triton X-100. Blood lead was measured within one week by atomic absorption spectrophotometry.
The results, as summarized in the table below, show there is essentially no difference between the two villages in blood lead concentrations of the children… See pdf for full Letter

A Systems Approach to Remediating Human Exposure to Arsenic and Fluoride From Overexploited Aquifers.
Key Points Overexploiting aquifers increases energy costs and lowers economic productivity by increasing human exposure to geogenic neurotoxins Over a 100 year future time-frame estimated revenue from agro-export will be less than the costs this activity imposes on the population Investing in water treatment substantially lowers costs of deteriorating water quality In

Arsenic and fluoride co-exposure through drinking water and their impacts on intelligence and oxidative stress among rural school-aged children of Lahore and Kasur districts, Pakistan.
Arsenic (As), and fluoride (F-) are potent contaminants with established carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic impacts on the exposed populations globally. Despite elevated groundwater As and F- levels being reported from various regions of Pakistan no biomonitoring study has been reported yet to address the co-exposure impact of As and F- among

Arsenic and fluoride exposure in drinking water: children’s IQ and growth in Shanyin County, Shanxi Province, China.
Background: Recently, in a cross-sectional study of 201 children in Araihazar, Bangladesh, exposure to arsenic (As) in drinking water has been shown to lower the scores on tests that measure children’s intellectual function before and after adjustment for sociodemographic features. Objectives: We investigated the effects of As and fluoride exposure on

Using drawing tests to measure intelligence in children from areas impacted by combined Al-F endemic toxicosis (Shuicheng, Guizhou).
Measurements of intelligence via drawing tests have been conducted to examine the intelligence development of children from regions affected by combined AIF endemic toxicosis. A selected number of 196 children between 6.5 and 12 years of age participated in the testing. Across all age groups, the average IQ level of children from

Fluoride Affects Learning & Memory in Animals
An association between elevated fluoride exposure and reduced intelligence has now been observed in 65 IQ studies. Although a link between fluoride and intelligence might initially seem surprising or random, it is actually consistent with a large body of animal research. This animal research includes the following 45 studies (out

Fluoride's Effect on Fetal Brain
The human placenta does not prevent the passage of fluoride from a pregnant mother's bloodstream to the fetus. As a result, a fetus can be harmed by fluoride ingested pregnancy. Based on research from China, the fetal brain is one of the organs susceptible to fluoride poisoning. As highlighted by the excerpts

Nutrient Deficiencies Enhance Fluoride Toxicity
It has been known since the 1930s that poor nutrition enhances the toxicity of fluoride. As discussed below, nutrient deficiencies have been specifically linked to increased susceptibility to fluoride-induced tooth damage (dental fluorosis), bone damage (osteomalacia), neurotoxicity (reduced intelligence), and mutagenicity. The nutrients of primary importance appear to be calcium,

Dental Fluorosis & Enamel Hypoplasia in Children with Kidney Disease
Children with kidney disease are known to have high levels of fluoride in their blood and to be at risk for disfiguring tooth defects. Research suggests that high levels of fluoride in blood, which can cause the tooth defect known as dental fluorosis, can contribute to the defects that occur
