Abstract
Contrasting studies on the toxic effects of sodium fluoride (NaF) during developmental stages of Wistar rats, lead us to investigate the neurofunctional effects caused by its perinatal exposure, devoid of any overt sign of toxicity and/or gross malformation. NaF solution was administered to pregnant rats by intragastric gavage at a daily dose of 2.5 and 5.0 mg/kg from gestational day 0 to day 9 after parturition. Developmental NaF exposure caused sex and dose specific behavioural deficits which affected males more than females in the majority of the evaluated end-points. In particular, the perinatal exposure to NaF 5.0 mg/kg, significantly affected learning, memory, motor coordination and blood pressure only in male rats. Conversely, a lack of habituation upon the second presentation of the objects and failure in the ability to discriminate between the novel and the familiar object were observed only in NaF 5.0 mg/kg female rats. Finally, a significant impairment of sexual behaviour was observed in male rats at both NaF dose levels. The present data indicate that perinatal rat exposure to NaF results in long lasting functional sex-specific alterations which occur at fluoride levels approaching those experienced by offspring of mothers.

Pathological changes in the tissues of rats (albino) and monkeys (macaca radiata) in fluorine toxicosis
1. Stomach, duodenum, small intestine, kidney, liver, spleen, skin, heart, aorta, lungs, brain, pancreas, adrenals, thyroid and parathyroid of rats and monkeys suffering from chronic fluorosis have been histologically examined. 2. Fluorine has not been found to have any effect on the heart muscle, aorta, skin and parathyroids, whereas it has

Use of the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure Test for neurotoxicity evaluation of mixtures in children.
The aim of this study was to assess the value of the children's version of the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure Test as a screening test in a population exposed to different mixtures of neurotoxicants. Copy and Immediate Recall scores were evaluated through the test. Children were recruited from three sites; an

Effect of fluorosis on mice learning and memory behaviors and brain SOD activity and MDA content
Objective: Explore the brain mechanism of the effect of fluorosis on learning and memory behavior. Method: A method combining behavioral observation and biochemical testing was used to study the effects of long-term drinking different concentrations of sodium fluoride on mouse learning and memory behavior and changes in content of brain

Effects of fluoride and lead on locomotor behavior and expression of nissl body in brain of adult rats.
By means of an activity chamber and a Y-maze, spontaneous and conditioned-response behaviors, respectively, of adult Wistar albino rats were determined after administration of sodium fluoride (150 mg/L) and/or lead acetate (300 mg/L) in their drinking water for 30 days. The dental status and the expression of Nissl body in

Fluoride exposure and cognitive neurodevelopment: Systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis.
Many uncertainties still surround the possible harmful effect of fluoride exposure on cognitive neurodevelopment in children. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to characterize this relation through a dose-response approach, by comparing the intelligence quotient (IQ) scores in the highest versus the lowest fluoride exposure category with

Fluoride & Arterial Calcification
The major change involved with cardiovascular disease is development of atherosclerosis in critical arteries, which is partially characterized by vascular calcification. The level of coronary artery calcification is thought to be the most important indicator of future cardiovascular events. Increased arterial calcifications have frequently been reported in those with skeletal fluorosis

Fluoride's Effect on Male Reproductive System: Animal Studies
Over 60 studies on animals (including rats, mice, roosters, and rabbits) have found that fluoride adversely impacts the male reproductive system. These studies have repeatedly found the following effects: (1) decreases in testosterone levels; (2) reduced sperm motility; (3) altered sperm morphology; (4) reduced sperm quantity; (5) increased oxidative stress; (6) and reduced capacity to breed.

Fluoride & Electrocardiogram Abnormalities
An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a diagnostic test that measures the electrical activity of the heart. An ECG can reveal heart rate, heart rhythym (i.e. steady or irregular), and the strength and timing of the heart’s natural electrical signals. ECGs are described in terms of “waves” (e.g. amplitude and duration). Problems

Fluoride & Arteriosclerosis
Healthy arteries are flexible and elastic, allowing efficient transfer of blood and nutrients from the heart to the rest of the body. Arteriosclerosis refers to a stiffening of the arteries, including loss of elasticity. This is a slow, progressive disease that may begin early in life from damage to the

Fluoride & Myocardial Damage
Structural damage to the heart resulting from fluoride toxicity has been observed in numerous human and animal studies. The general features of this damage include cloudy swelling, vacuolization or vacuolar degeneration, hemorrhages, interstitial edema, fibrous necrosis, dissolution of nuclei, and thickening of the vessel walls in the heart muscle (Basha
