Effects of protein and calcium supplementation on bone metabolism and thyroid function in protein and calcium deficient rabbits exposed to fluoride
This study was conducted to determine whether feeding a diet containing excess crude protein (CP) or calcium (Ca) for up to 120 days can ameliorate the effects of fluoride (F) intake on bone health and thyroid function observed in rabbits fed a CP- and Ca-deficient diet. Treatment with F increased serum bone Gla

Review of the Bartlett-Cameron survey: a ten year fluoride study.
Analysis of the data produced the following conclusions: 1. As was expected, dental fluorosis was significantly greater in Bartlett than in Cameron (all of the participants born and in continuous residence in Bartlett during the tooth formative period exhibited positive evidence of dental fluorosis). 2. The incidence of cardiovascular disease was higher

Impact of subchronic exposure to triclosan and/or fluoride on estrogenic activity in immature female rats: The expression pattern of calbindin-D9k and estrogen receptor a genes.
This study explored the influence of triclosan (TCS) in the absence and presence of sodium fluoride (NaF) on estrogenic activity and thyroid function of adolescent female rats. The results indicated that the individual exposure to TCS evoked a significant decline in T3 and T4 but the levels of estradiol, FSH,

Histologic findings in the kidney, liver, pancreas, adrenal, and thyroid glands of the rat following sodium fluoride administration
1. Fluoride toxicosis was induced in young rats of the Long-Evans strain. Ten rats received a total of 406.47 mg. each of sodium fluoride injected intraperitoneally over a fifteen-day period, to induce acute poisoning. Seven rats survived, of which six were analyzed for this study. Ten others received a total

Fluoride, water hardness, and endemic goitre.
The prevalence of goitre in 17 Himalayan villages has been estimated. Water-samples from each village were taken, and levels of iodine, fluoride, and hardness determined. In 13 villages wide variations in goitre prevalence were not attributable to differences in iodine intake, which remained constant within a narrow range. Instead, variations

Fluorine in the Aetiology of Endemic Goitre
The distribution of endemic goitre in the Punjab and in England is related to the geological distribution of fluorine and to the distribution of human dental fluorosis (mottled enamel). Inquiry showed the presence of dental fluorosis among school-children in two areas of Somerset where two previous observers had recorded a high incidence of goitre, and the absence of dental fluorosis in an adjoining area selected as control where endemic goitre was absent.

Fluoride Exposure Aggravates the Impact of Iodine Deficiency
A consistent body of animal and human research shows that fluoride exposure worsens the impact of an iodine deficiency. Iodine is the basic building block of the T3 and T4 hormones and thus an adequate iodine intake is essential for the proper functioning of the thyroid gland. When iodine intake is inadequate during infancy and

Fluoride Aggravates Thyroid Damage Caused by Excess Iodine Intake
Chinese researchers have found that the combination of excess fluoride with excess iodine caused greater reductions in IQ, or greater increases in goitre than either scenario by itself.

Fluoride's Impact on Thyroid Hormones
Up through the 1950s, doctors in Europe and South America prescribed fluoride for this purpose in patients with hyperthyroidism. (Merck Index 1968). Fluoride was selected as a thyroid suppressant based on findings dating back to the mid-19th century that fluoride is a goitrogen (a substance that can cause goiter). When used as

Fluoride, Water Hardness, and Endemic Goitre
Variations in goitre prevalence were found to correlate closely with the fluoride content (p=0-74; P<0-01) and with the hardness (p=0.77; P<0-01) of the water in each village. The effects of fluoride and water hardness seem to be independent.
