Abstract
The contents of T3, T4, TSH, urine fluoride, and urine iodine in 8-12 year-old children [were measured] in endemic fluorosis areas (water fluoride 3.52 mg/L). The results are: T4 content significantly decreased in the blood. T3 and TSH content was significantly elevated, and there is a positive correlation between the ratio and urine fluoride content, showing a degree of inhibition of the function of children’s thyroids in endemic fluorosis areas, and this inhibition effect may be caused by the long-term exposure of children in the endemic area to a high-fluoride environment.

Studies of relationships between the polymorphism of COMT gene and plasma proteomic profiling and children’s intelligence in high fluoride areas
Part I – Effect of high F drinking water on children’s IQ Objective: To investigate the relationships among the children’s serum F, urine F, thyroid hormone levels and children’s IQ in the high fluoride areas. Methods: We collected the samples of the drinking water, urine and blood and measured the F concentrations,

[The change of thyroid functlon from the children with fluoride aluminum combined toxicosis in Shuicheng Area of Guizhou].
The levels of serum T3, T4 and TSH were analyzed in the children with fluoride aluminum combined toxicosis in Shuicheng area of Guizhou as compared with the children without fluoride-aluminum combined toxicosis. The results showed that serum T4 content decreased in the children with fluoride aluminum combined toxicosis (103.9±15.9 nmol/L

Effect of excessive green tea versus fluoride and caffeine on body weight and serum thyroid hormones in male mice
Green tea is a worldwide used beverage rich in fluoride and caffeine. To study the effect of excessive green tea intake versus fluoride and caffeine on body weight and serum thyroid hormones in male mice. Also, to confirm the effect of excessive green tea intake on thyroid gland was due

Measurement and analysis of several examination indices of endemic fluorosis sufferers
Objective: Explore the measurement of diagnosis indices significant for endemic fluorosis. Method: 600 patients with minor, medium, and severe degrees of fluorosis were selected, and 21 examinations were performed on their blood, urine, and biochemistry. Ion-selective electrodes were used for blood and urine fluoride, and RABA biochemical automatic analyzers were

[Effect of different fluoride and iodine concentration in drinking water on children's dental fluorosis and thyroid function].
Objective: To investigate the effect of different concentrations of fluoride and iodine in drinking water on children's dental fluorosis and thyroid function. Methods: According to different concentration of fluoride and iodine in drinking water, four villages in two counties of Henan province were classified as high fluoride and iodine, high fluoride,

Fluoride's Impact on Thyroid Hormones
Up through the 1950s, doctors in Europe and South America prescribed fluoride for this purpose in patients with hyperthyroidism. (Merck Index 1968). Fluoride was selected as a thyroid suppressant based on findings dating back to the mid-19th century that fluoride is a goitrogen (a substance that can cause goiter). When used as

Fluoride, Water Hardness, and Endemic Goitre
Variations in goitre prevalence were found to correlate closely with the fluoride content (p=0-74; P<0-01) and with the hardness (p=0.77; P<0-01) of the water in each village. The effects of fluoride and water hardness seem to be independent.

Fluorine in the Aetiology of Endemic Goitre
The distribution of endemic goitre in the Punjab and in England is related to the geological distribution of fluorine and to the distribution of human dental fluorosis (mottled enamel). Inquiry showed the presence of dental fluorosis among school-children in two areas of Somerset where two previous observers had recorded a high incidence of goitre, and the absence of dental fluorosis in an adjoining area selected as control where endemic goitre was absent.

Fluoride Aggravates Thyroid Damage Caused by Excess Iodine Intake
Chinese researchers have found that the combination of excess fluoride with excess iodine caused greater reductions in IQ, or greater increases in goitre than either scenario by itself.

Is fluoride-induced hyperthyroidism a cause of psychosis among East African immigrants to Scandinavia?
When people with a compensated fluoride-induced hypothyroidism move to a low-fluoride area, the fluoride-induced inhibition of the production of thyroid hormones ceases. In Scandinavia, the dietary intake of iodine is usually quite high due to iodized table salt and easy access to marine fish. Under these conditions, the elevated capacity for production of thyroid hormones may result in hyperthyroidism.
