Abstract
The intelligence quotient (IQ) was measured in 190 school-age children, 12–13 years old, residing in two village areas of India with similar educational and socioeconomic conditions but differing in fluoride (F) concentration in the drinking water. The children in the high F area (drinking water F 5.55±0.41 mg/L) had higher urinary F levels (6.13± 0.67 mg/L) than the children in the lower F area (drinking water F 2.01±0.09 mg/L; urinary F levels 2.30±0.28 mg/L). The mean IQ score of the 89 children in the high F area was significantly lower (91.72±1.13), than that of the 101 children in lower F area (104.44±1.23). A significant inverse relationship was also present between IQ and the urinary F level. In agreement with other studies elsewhere, these findings indicate that children drinking high F water are at risk for impaired development of intelligence

Arsenic and fluoride exposure in drinking water: children’s IQ and growth in Shanyin County, Shanxi Province, China.
Background: Recently, in a cross-sectional study of 201 children in Araihazar, Bangladesh, exposure to arsenic (As) in drinking water has been shown to lower the scores on tests that measure children’s intellectual function before and after adjustment for sociodemographic features. Objectives: We investigated the effects of As and fluoride exposure on

Prenatal exposure to fluoride and neuropsychological development in early childhood: 1-to 4 years old children.
Highlights Maternal fluoride levels were associated with better cognitive scores in childhood. The neuropsychological association is gender dependent; only seen in boys. Positive associations do not disappear after adjustment by different covariates. A potential positive neuropsychological association at low fluoride levels cannot be excluded. Background Cross-sectional and prospective studies have provided

Investigation on children’s growth and development under long-term fluoride exposure
Objective To study the influence on children’s growth by long-term high fluoride exposure. Methods Case group was selected in high fluoride areas and control group was selected in non-high fluoride areas. The difference of children’s growth levels were analyzed between 2 groups. Results The IQ of case group was significantly lower than that of control

Relationship between Drinking Water Fluoride and Intelligence Quotient in Egyptian School Children.
Background: Fluoridation of drinking water, despite being regarded as one of the top ten public health achievements of the twentieth century, has remained a much more debated concept. Excessive fluoride intake during infancy and early childhood causes a number of irreversible structural and functional changes in the CNS leading to

Threshold effects of moderately excessive fluoride exposure on children's health: A potential association between dental fluorosis and loss of excellent intelligence.
Highlights Childhood fluoride exposure was inversely associated with dental health and IQ. Threshold and saturation effects for aforementioned associations existed. Moderate fluoride exposure was mainly related to excellent intelligence loss. Dental fluorosis may be useful to reflect excellent intelligence loss. BACKGROUND: Excessive fluoride exposure is associated with adverse health outcomes, but

Fluoride Affects Learning & Memory in Animals
An association between elevated fluoride exposure and reduced intelligence has now been observed in 65 IQ studies. Although a link between fluoride and intelligence might initially seem surprising or random, it is actually consistent with a large body of animal research. This animal research includes the following 45 studies (out

Fluoride's Direct Effects on Brain: Animal Studies
The possibility that fluoride ingestion may impair intelligence and other indices of neurological function is supported by a vast body of animal research, including over 40 studies that have investigated fluoride's effects on brain quality in animals. As discussed by the National Research Council, the studies have consistently demonstrated that fluoride, at widely varying concentrations, is toxic to the brain.

Fluoride's Effect on Fetal Brain
The human placenta does not prevent the passage of fluoride from a pregnant mother's bloodstream to the fetus. As a result, a fetus can be harmed by fluoride ingested pregnancy. Based on research from China, the fetal brain is one of the organs susceptible to fluoride poisoning. As highlighted by the excerpts
